Employment Opportunity under the Young Canada Works in Heritage Institutions Program with Trinity Historical Society Inc. Trinity, NL

The successful applicant will be hired in the position of Curatorial Researcher and Interpreter with the Trinity Historical Society. The person will be in charge of all matters concerning cataloguing and photographing new acquisitions to the permanent artifact collection, conduct research and interpretation studies on applicable items within the collection, entering information into the PastPerfect collections management database.

The project will commence about June 19, 2017 and is to be completed no later than September 2, 2017. The location of work is at the Trinity Historical Society Office, Church Road, Trinity, NL. The hourly wage will be $11.00/hr for a 35 hr work week for a period of 11 weeks.

The position requires some knowledge of the Trinity Historical Society, its aims, objectives, the history of Trinity and the province. Prior experience with working in a museum environment would be an asset as well as the completion of courses in the arts, business/communications, folklore and/or history. Applicants should also be familiar with using a computer, digital cameras and computer programs such as WordPerfect and Microsoft Word and its applicable systems. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are essential for this position as well as basic French and fluency in English is required. The applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 30 at the start of employment; be legally entitled to work in Canada; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; be registered in the YCW candidate inventory employment data bank; be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; was a full-time student in the semester before applying for this position and have the intention to return to full-time studies in the semester following the end of this position; not have another full-time position and meet the eligibility criteria as described above.

The Town of Trinity has a population of around 250 people and is one of the primary cultural tourism destinations in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Historical Society owns and operates five historic sites in the town: Trinity Museum (1966); Green Family Forge (1992); Court House, Goal and General Building (1996); Lester-Garland House (1997), Cooperage (2007) and Fort Point (2011). The Society also has an archives located in the Lester-Garland House that it is responsible for operating that contains materials that date to the early 1750s. The mandate of the Society is to preserve, present and promote the history of Trinity and the surrounding communities for its residents and visitors.
