Job title: Outreach Science Explorer – Summer Intern
Reports to: Manager of Public Programs
Position length: Term – 3 month (May 8, 2017 – August 28, 2017)

This position is pending funding from Young Canada Works. Candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this position:
- Must be a full time student
- Must be planning to return to school in the fall semester as a full time student
- Are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and are legally entitled to work in Canada
- Between 16 and 30 years of age
- Must be willing to work full time for the duration of the work term

General Description:

The Outreach Science Explorer will be responsible for the delivery of provincial-wide science based outreach programming and Canada – 2017 Summer GO! Science Outreach program. Along with curriculum-based outreach programs for school groups, the Outreach Science Explorer will deliver programs at various community-based outreaches. The Outreach Science Explorer will be involved in programming at the Science Centre when not engaged in travel across Saskatchewan. All travel expenses are paid.

Specific Responsibilities
The Outreach Science Explorer is responsible for:
• Delivery of demonstrations, workshops and community programming. The Outreach Science Explorer conducts demonstrations and leads workshops and community programs, the purpose of which are to educate and entertain visitors.

• Travelling throughout the province. The Outreach Science Explorer will travel throughout the province to schools, libraries, and other community events throughout the year to deliver demonstrations and workshops.

• Participating in program development and improvement. The Outreach Science Explorer contributes to the ongoing development and improvement of programming by making suggestions, contributing ideas and working with the programming staff to improve demonstrations, activities and workshops.

• Developing priority skills necessary for program delivery including Interpretation and workshop delivery. The Outreach Science Explorer continually develops his or her knowledge about science and visitor education by attending staff training sessions, reading available material and trying out new ideas.

• Other Duties. The Outreach Science Explorer will be asked to assist with a variety of tasks related to the operation of the Science Centre and the provision of programming.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Available to travel across Saskatchewan year round.
• Experience teaching, instructing or coaching a variety of age levels.
• Curiosity and interest in science and science literacy.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• A positive attitude with a high level of customer relations skills.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Ability to transport and move equipment.
• Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers License.
• Completion of at least some post secondary training in science, education, or technology.
• Criminal Records Check / Vulnerable Persons Check

Working conditions
This is a full-time position and falls under the salary grid level 2. The position requires week-day availability with some evening and weekend work. Travel will included overnight trips.
