Tk'emlups te Secwepemc (TteS) is a fast growing vibrant organization committed to the development and progress of its Band Members and Community. The TteS owned and operated Secwepemc Museum and Heritage Park is committed to development, preservation and perpetuation of the Secwepemc language, history and culture by providing unique educational experiences and historically and culturally accurate information to the general public. As such, the TteS invites applications from qualified, highly motivated and dynamic individuals to fill the following position.

Position Title: Museum Apprentice

As the Museum Apprentice, you will assist the Museum Archivist with the arrangement, cataloguing, maintenance and exhibition of a collection of Secwepemc historical pieces to ensure their safekeeping for TteS future generations. You will also promote the Secwepemc Museum and Heritage Park, by providing tours to guests, upon request and providing general administrative support to the Museum Archivist as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Archivist with the arrangement and preservation of the collection of various archival materials to ensure successful day-to-day operations of the Museum.
- Collect, interpret and preserve all paper, manuscripts, photographic and book collections in the museum
- Respond to research requests for photo documentation and factual historical information
- Coordinate the ordering, billing and processing of photographic reproduction requests and work with contracted photographers
- Research and write historical text for use in various public programs
- Review all archival donations and ensure the proper conservation and storage of all materials, including maintenance in the proper environmental and storage conditions (handling, light, heat, humidity) to preserve photographs, films and artifacts
- Access resources available through archives, repositories, libraries and museums, as requested
- Maintain document and computer catalogue files
- Promote a better understanding of cultural history through programs and workshops
-Provides guided tours of the museum and archives as requested
- Performs general administration duties
-Performs all other duties and responsibilities as required
- Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of TteS

Professional Certification, Education and Experience:
Minimum of one year post-secondary in First Nations studies
Minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Advanced computerized record keeping skills and experience with Microsoft Office
Extensive knowledge of Secwepemc language, history and culture preferred
Preference will be given to those who wish to advance their career in museum and or cultural education centres

Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of environmental and storage conditional and supplies necessary to preserve antique and contemporary photographs, film and artifacts
Ability to perform research to acquire, catalog and preserve historical documentation
Ability to evaluate collection contributions for historical or cultural significance
Communicate verbally and in writing to various audiences in an engaging manner
Strong analytical, organization, coordination and planning skills
Ability to take initiative, set priorities and meet deadlines
Strong tact and diplomacy
Strong teamwork, cooperation, service orientation, problem solving and judgement skills
Ability to work in multi-cultural settings
