Duties and Responsibilities:
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) provides innovative programming and learning opportunities for Nova Scotia residents and visitors to the province. The Art Education Assistant will assume a significant planning and coordination role to help meet the objectives and goals in the programming division during the very busy spring and summer season. The candidate will assist the programming team to provide exceptional opportunities in the visual arts for children, youth, adults and special interest groups who are participating in a wide slate of programs. Reporting to the Curator of Education and Public Programs, the Art Education Assistant will: research the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s collection and special exhibitions; develop and deliver interactive tours and hands-on programs for summer day camp and specialized groups as well as the general public; assist with the intensive 2019 Summer School of the Arts program including providing support to the artist instructors, participants; and overseeing studio maintenance
Qualifications:
Full-time university or community college student entering or returning to study in September 2019. The candidate will have a minimum of one year completed toward an undergraduate degree or diploma in Fine Arts, Art History, Art Education or Museum Studies or other related field. The candidate will have demonstrated an ability working with children, youth, and adults in the arts. The candidate must have proficient written and verbal communication skills; strong planning and organizational skills as well. The candidate must have good keyboarding skills and the ability to use Word, Internet and Email as well as experience in web research. They will have the ability to work with a diverse public; and the ability to carry out responsibilities in a professional manner.
