Note: This project is contingent on our successful application for funding assistance through the Young Canada Works (YCW) in Heritage Organizations. Potential employees must be registered with the YCW Candidate Inventory to be eligible for a position under this programme. YCW requires that the student applicant be between 16 and 30 years of age as of the start of the project, legally entitled to work in Canada, and returning to school full-time in the fall. Description and duties:

The mission of the Royal Ontario Museum Archives is to preserve and make available the museum’s records of enduring historical value and to support the collections, curatorial and museological research of the Royal Ontario Museum.

The ROM Archives is seeking a Summer Archives Assistant to arrange and describe the Mineralogy and Geology Department archive. The project objective is to appraise, arrange, describe, and rehouse the departmental archives of the Mineralogy and Geology sections of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). The project will facilitate the transfer of records from ROM curatorial departments to the ROM’s Archives. The arrangement and description of these records will expand the ROM Archive’s holdings relating to the Mineralogy and Geology sections of the museum.

Qualifications
Candidates must be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory and meet program eligibility criteria.


Candidates must have completed one year in an accredited graduate-level archives program. Candidates must have taken and passed at least one course on archival arrangement and description.


Excellent written communication skills are required. English language skills are mandatory. Experience with Microsoft programs is required.


Compensation:
$25 per hour plus requisite financial benefits for summer contract employment. 35 hours per week. Hours of work are 9am - 5pm Monday-Friday. Contract ends August 30, 2019
