Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Library and Heritage Resources and the day-to-day direction of the curator: The museum tour guides are responsible for greeting visitors and conducting visitor tours of the museums. Tour guides are expected to be responsible for light housekeeping duties as directed by the curator as well as minor grounds keeping and building maintenance. Tour guides are expected to take part in all training offered, including safety, first aid and historical information about the museum and the City of Greater Sudbury.

General Duties:
1. Responsible for conducting tours of the museum sites for visitors.
2. Reports to the curator any situation which may put the public or the collection at risk.
3. Collects admissions and money from purchases in the gift shop.
4. Is required to work a rotating shift to cover the museum’s operation.
5. Performs light housekeeping duties.
6. Performs general maintenance duties.
7. Performs general office duties (e.g. answering phones, preparing promotional materials, etc.)
8. Works with volunteers as required.
9. Performs other duties as required (among others for this summer: assisting the curator with special projects, including developing new permanent exhibitions, working with the museums’ collections of artifacts).

Education and Training
- At least some post-secondary education in a related discipline (ie. History, including Classical Studies - any time period or location, but Canadian preferred - Anthropology or Archaeology, Indigenous Studies, Women’s Studies, Labour Studies, Education, French, English, Modern Languages, Communication Studies, Theatre Arts, Journalism, Public Relations or Communications, Design and Visual Arts/Graphic Design, Child and Youth Worker and Early Childhood Education) is preferred.
- Secondary students may apply, but post-secondary students will be given preference, and those secondary school students in their final year will be given preference over other secondary school students.

Other Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in full time studies and returning to full time studies for the upcoming scholastic year;
- Be able to perform all duties in both English and French;
- Have at least basic computer skills (at least some familiarity with word processors, spreadsheet software, and computer scanning software). Better than basic computer skills are preferred;
- Have a valid ‘G’ class driver’s license – this position may require the use of a personal or City vehicle for City business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, have an acceptable driving record, and have personal automobile insurance coverage;
- Have better than average communication skills; and
- Have a satisfactory health, attendance and employment history.
