The Bateman Foundation is a national public charity formed to conserve and interpret the largest and most representative body of Robert Bateman's work in the world. With Robert Bateman as our guide, we connect people to the magic of nature through art.
The Robert Bateman Centre showcases more than 80 works by Robert Bateman, spanning his seven decades as one of Canada’s premier artists. Located in Victoria’s dynamic downtown inner harbour the Centre houses a gallery and a shop, and hosts a rotation of exhibits and a full schedule of educational and public programming.

The Opportunity:
The Marketing and Outreach Assistant will work closely with the Managing Director and the Sales and Marketing Manager to ensure the Robert Bateman Centre programs, exhibits and events are promoted effectively including the summer exhibit. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience by directly promoting the Centre at numerous outreach and community events and also contributing to the Centre’s online presence, including researching material, writing copy and posting photos. The Assistant will work with the development, curatorial and educational departments to effectively promote them at community events.
The Marketing and Outreach Assistant will develop their communication skills though direct interaction with the public. They will also be responsible for contributing to social media assets including Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Trip Advisor for the Robert Bateman Centre.
Duties will include:
- Represent the Centre at various public outreach events and to key tourism partners with a focus on the summer exhibit being hosted at the Centre
- Research outreach opportunities and coordinate Centre involvement in these events
- Work collaboratively with Centre partners
- With the Volunteer Manager, oversee and supervise volunteer participation at outreach events
- Design communication and outreach materials such as posters and promotional items
- Promotion of Centre events and programs to the public and partners
- With the Development and Marketing Coordinator, social media management and engagement including maintaining and updating the Robert Bateman Centre’s social media assets including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Trip Advisor
- Office administration including researching information as required by Centre staff
- Visitor services relations: assist Visitor Services team by selling admission tickets and work with the public including groups and out of town visitors to ensure they receive the best quality experience
- Event management including assistance with the coordination and facilitation of special events
- Aid in visitor experience initiative including surveys
- Other programming and outreach tasks as assigned
Eligibility Requirements:
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
- are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- meet the eligibility criteria of the program for which you are applying;
- are registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory;
- are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
- have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;
- intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.

- Passion for art and nature and ability to express this passion to the public
- Ability to undertake detailed tasks and follow direction
- Basic understanding of program representation
- Ability to work independently when required
- Ability of carry about detailed assignments
- Ability to supervise and direct volunteers and program participants
- Availability for weekday, weekend and evening shifts, as required
- Possesses valid driver’s license and vehicle
