The Manitoba Museum is Manitoba’s largest heritage centre and number one paid tourist attraction. We are seeking Summer Day Camp Leaders to work with our Manager of Museum Programs for the summer.

The Manager of Museum Programs is responsible for the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of the institution's Museum programs for its school audiences, public programs, and the Discovery Day Camp. The Manager provides supervision for staff engaged in public and education programs. This responsibility includes both on-site and extension activities for the general public and schools.

The Day Camp Leaders assist with the running of day camps for children between Grades K to 5. Summer Day camp leaders are needed at the Manitoba Museum from June 19, 2017 to September 1, 2017 when the day camps are on. This represents 9 weeks of work with two weeks off – one in July and one in August. Leaders will be given training and orientation to the museum, Science Gallery and Planetarium and children’s activities.

Candidates with educational backgrounds in Science, Education, Child Development, or Recreational Studies are preferred. The candidates must be proficient in general computer skills and using MS Word processing for letters to parents, reports etc. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Any additional language skills are beneficial. Experience working with young children (baby-sitting, youth groups, child care) is preferred. Positive teamwork experience, supervision of volunteers and personal volunteer experience, and First Aid/CPR training are assets.

The location of the job is Winnipeg and it is a full-time temporary position commencing June 19, 2017 continuing until September 1, 2017. The incumbent will report to the Manager of Museum Programs. Pay is $12.00 per hour, working Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Applicants must qualify under the Young Canada Works Student program (see www.youngcanadaworks.ca)

Interviews will be conducted in May. This position is dependent upon funding from the Young Canada Works program. YCW criteria state that candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 30 years; must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee status in Canada; and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
