Barkerville Historic Town is in the heart of the Cariboo, 85 KM to the east of Quesnel in central British Columbia. It is situated at an altitude of 42,000 feet and can be cool and wet as it is situated in the sub alpine of the Cariboo Mountains. People unfamiliar with the area are often surprised by the potential for snow at any time of the year; summer snowstorms are not unusual.
Wells, the local support town 8 km away, is where the accommodations for most staff are located. Wells may be small, but it is brimming with activity. It is a surprisingly diverse little mining town and a center for artists and outdoor enthusiasts. There is no public transit between Barkerville and Wells, though there is a public bus available between Quesnel and Wells one day per week. Many employees bike to work and ride shares are potentially available.
