Assistant Curator - Chemainus Valley Museum - Closing date for applications: May 14, 2018
Curators are specialists in a particular academic discipline relevant to a historical site/museum/gallery's collections. Museum curators research and recommend acquisitions of artifacts and are responsible for the care of objects, materials, documents and public records. The position will assist with the duties listed for the Chemainus Valley Museum.
Students seeking summer employment with the Chemainus Valley Museum must currently be in school as a full-time student (September 2017-May 2018) and be planning to return to full-time studies in September 2018.
The Chemainus Valley Museum is located on Vancouver Island mid-way between Victoria and Nanaimo at 9799 Water Wheel Crescent, Chemainus, BC. Situated within the Water Wheel Park and Plaza the museum has a beautiful setting to showcase the local history of this wonderful community.
The Chemainus Valley Historical Society is looking for energetic students to :
- Greet and welcome all visitors
- Offer and conduct tours
- Receive, catalog, clean, store and research artifacts ad archival materials
- Input data using Past Perfect computer program. Training will be provided.
- Assist in general work with Archivists
- Assist with office work where needed
- Design and implement display changes
- Assist with various programs and where needed.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of basic computer programs such as Office, Word, Work, Excel and Past Perfect
- Familiarity with basic databases
- Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills
- Works well independently as well as in groups
- Knowledge of cash / till procedures
- Knowledge of standard museum operations
This position to start no later than June 1, 2018 and ends September 1, 2018
Wage: $12.65 per hour
