As Assistant Curator, you assist the Curator in undertaking an artifact collections inventory, including the safe re-housing of the artifact collection. This work includes unpacking artifacts from storage boxes, accounting for them by finding their identifying ID number and creating tags, and recording data into a spreadsheet. You then enter data into a collection management database, where you describe and researching the history of historic items. Then, you will take photographs to a professional standard, further documenting Harrison and Kent's material culture. Other daily tasks will include taking environmental readings, cleaning collection areas and organizing and prepping artifacts and materials for exhibits. You assist with visitor services, welcoming guests and sharing what you know about the area's history.

You are a full-time student returning to school in the fall who is working towards a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline such as museum studies, history, cultural heritage management, library or archival studies, anthropology, environmental sciences, geography, or archaeology.

You have strong skills working with computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, and databases. You understand the role of museums and archives in a community context, and have a working knowledge of the communities of Agassiz, Harrison Hot Springs, and the District of Kent. You work equally well in a team as you do independently, and are comfortable speaking in front of a group or people from diverse backgrounds, ages, and cultures. You are known for your attention to detail, high degree of accuracy, and excellent customer and interpersonal skills.
