The Museum of Northern British Columbia is looking to hire energetic students, with an appreciation for helping visitors to the Prince Rupert region, to fill seasonal full-time visitor services positions. Located in picturesque Prince Rupert and overlooking the Prince Rupert Harbour, the Museum houses, displays and interprets collections of international significance. In addition to area residents, and visitors arriving by road, ferry bus, rail, and air the Museum hosts visitors from around the world arriving by cruise ship. Activities include cultural/natural history interpretive programs, visitor reception and orientation and customer service/retail merchandising. Previous experience is preferred, training is provided.

Job duties include:
Researching, preparing and presenting daily cultural/historical interpretive programs; meeting and greeting the public, promoting events, book event reservations; providing visitor orientation and providing visitor orientation to Museum of Northern BC and other Museum operations — Kwinitsa Railway Station Museum, First Nations Artists’ Space, Tsimshian Longhouse (’Wiiwaabm Ts’msyeen) and Museum Shop; retail merchandising of contemporary First Nations art, local crafts, an extensive array of books in Museum Shop; developing background knowledge of regional cultural and natural history, local and regional attractions and services and contemporary First Nations art and artists; research projects; artifact care and exhibition projects; and core administrative tasks.

Previous experience in the following are considered assets:
Arts and culture, heritage programming, public speaking/tour guiding, visitor services, retail/point of sales systems, ability to work well independently or with others in a fast paced environment. Experience with word, excel, desktop publishing, and database applications also an asset.

Employment period: May 1 – August 31, 2018

Wage: $18/hr.
