One position is available as Museum Attendant.
Job Site Location – Selo Ukraina site located 12 km south of Dauphin MB.
Wages - $14/hour, 40 hour work week, 15 weeks of employment.
Start date – Wednesday May 23. 2018
End date – Sunday September 2, 2018

One summer student position is available to assist the volunteer members of the museum to operate and maintain a Ukrainian Heritage Village Museum to enhance the knowledge of Canadian and international audiences and an appreciation of Canada’s achievements and cultural heritage. As a museum attendant the student will research and learn the history of the pioneers in the Dauphin area, be responsible to open and close the museum on assigned work days, greet the public, provide site tours, provide the public with oral and written information on the museum artifacts, collect and account for daily gate fees, catalogue museum artifacts, provide written and oral reports on progress of assigned job tasks, perform preservation maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting, grass cutting around village buildings and provide weekly time and project reports.
Students with knowledge of museum operations and management such as cataloguing museum artifacts, accessioning and deaccessioning artifacts along with good oral communications skills with the public, will be most desirable.
Student must have good communication skills, reading, writing and speaking; must show interest, initiative and effort in the operations of a museum; must be responsible and accountable for developing daily work plans and carrying them out; must have good computer skills for data entry; must be able to work with others in the delivery of assigned tasks; must have ability to work safely while operating and maintaining small power tools and equipment such as lawn mowers for village maintenance purposes; must have a driver’s licence and access to a vehicle or transportation to get to the job site, which is located 12 km from Dauphin.
The museum attendant position will provide the student with an opportunity to gain valuable employability skills by working with the museum volunteers as a team to operate and maintain the museum, sharing knowledge with the public by communicating with the public to inform them and educate them on museum artifacts and history of the area, being responsible to the employer for the operation and care of the museum, and also to gain practical experience in administrative procedures such as recording gate admissions and completion of written project reports.
