The University of Alberta Art Collection encompasses over 10 000 works of art collected over the last 100 years from Canadian and international artists. A current area of focus is the Public Art Program, an inspiring learning program offered across all University of Alberta campuses. Thematic exhibitions are curated and installed in selected public spaces throughout the University of Alberta. A particular focus for the program is to curate and install selected works from among the Art Collection's holdings of art by indigenous artists.

University of Alberta Museums, with the assistance of Young Canada Works, is looking to hire a Collections Assistant : Public Art Program. Under the guidance of our curatorial, communications and collection management teams, the Collections Assistant will:
• Learn applicable University of Alberta policy and procedures, especially those pertaining to museums and collections
• Assist with the preparation and dissemination of a reproduction rights request letter, and any required follow-up
• Research and write interpretive labels, and update the database with this information
• Assist with the curation and installation of themed exhibits of selected works of art in the program
• Update status and location information in the collection database
The ideal candidate for this position should:
o Have at least 2 years of post-secondary education in a related field such as visual art, art history, museum studies or arts administration
o have the desire and passion to work in a research collection setting in the future
o have some prior experience handling museum objects
o have prior experience researching and writing about art for diverse audiences
o computer skills with an ability to use databases and a proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
o work well as an individual and in team oriented environment
o ability to lift 50lbs and to use stairs
o meet the qualifications as stipulated by Young Canada Works

This position runs from 14 May, 2018– 31 August, 2018. The rate of pay is $18.07 /hr. Qualified individuals should submit a letter of introduction, a current resumé and the names of three references by midnight on 29 April, 2018 to Christina Marocco, Administrative Team Lead:
