The School of Dance seeks a Classroom and Administrative Intern for a 26 week internship, May 7, 2018 – November 2, 2018. The wage will be $18/hour and the work week is 35 hours/week, flexible, based on the project delivery dates.
The Intern will work in concert with and under the supervision of The School’s Artistic Director, the Director of Education for DragonFly® and senior management on the planning and delivery of specialized classes and workshops for youth with Down syndrome.
The successful candidate will be a graduate of a university, college or recognized professional arts institution. Bilingualism is an asset. The Intern is welcome to participate in The School’s professional development activities.

The Internship requires that the individual is comfortable working with the Microsoft Office Suite and handling digital cameras, video-recording equipment, musical instruments and sound equipment. Youth of all ages will be involved in the projects, so the candidate must be able to demonstrate their interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic person who shows excellent creative skills and is an intuitive thinker.

The School of Dance is located in Ottawa, the Nation’s Capital. The School of Dance was founded in 1978 by Merrilee Hodgins and Joyce Shietze. In 1979, Celia Franca, a long-time friend and artistic colleague of both Hodgins and Shietze, joined The School as Co-Artistic Director. With the addition of the legendary Franca, a founder of the National Ballet of Canada and co-founder of the National Ballet School, The School’s unwavering standards of excellence crystallized and the stage was set for The School of Dance to grow into the world class arts education institution it is today.
The Mandate of The School of Dance is to operate exclusively as a charitable organization. Our Mission is to offer the best possible interactive and participatory arts education and outreach programming to all members of the community.
The School offers professional classes in ballet and contemporary dance, professional development activities for teachers, as well as leisure and recreational programmes for adults and children. Each year The School touches the lives of over 70,000 Ontarians through classes, public performances, Charitable Community Programmes and Projects including DragonFly® for learners with Down syndrome, Connecting with Dance for people with Parkinson’s, Dance is BEST® programmes for Seniors, Boys Only! classes and DanceONTour®, school visits designed to inspire interest in the arts.
