Description of Duties:
• Researches, writes, and compiles information and images for heritage resources located in the Region of Waterloo.
• Gathers information and confirms details using a variety of information sources, including archives, museums, libraries, public institutions, and property owners. Inventories and ranks heritage resources using set criteria.
• Presents research findings to the Heritage Planning Advisory Committee and/or to specific Area Municipal heritage contacts.
• Works with committee members and staff to publish research findings.
• Work requires periods of prolonged sitting, visual and mental concentration, manual dexterity, and attention to detail 80% of the time.
• Occasionally conducts site visits.
• Work is subject to occasional travel to different work sites to conduct research in archives, museums, and libraries, and to visit site locations of specific heritage resources.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
• Knowledge of historical research using primary, secondary, and Internet resources, normally acquired through current enrolment in a recognized post secondary program in History, Anthropology, Cultural Management, Geography, or related field.
• Interest in local and Canadian history.
• Analytical, research, and organizational skills to summarize historical data from various sources; confirm the accuracy of historical information; and complete projects within pre-determined time periods.
• Human relations and communication skills to interact effectively with key information source contracts; comprehend instructions and accept direction; and to participate as an effective team member.
• Computer skills using such software as MS Office, the Internet, and image scanning equipment.
• Ability to read and comprehend historical information.
• Ability to record research information in a clear, standardized manner.
• Ability to exchange information with Regional staff and members of the public; and respond to inquiries regarding events.
• Ability to travel to various locations within the Region.
• Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
