Do you believe global climate change is a leading issue of our time? Are you excited about science communication and working with the public? Do you want to work with leading scientists and engagement experts on the development of new, innovative programs to inspire positive change? If you answered yes to these questions, then the Climate Change Workshop Assistant position at the Royal Ontario Museum may be a perfect fit for you!

The successful candidate will work directly with the Coordinator of the Life in Crisis: Schad Gallery of Biodiversity to enhance the profile of the Gallery and the themes it encompasses. The Life in Crisis: Shad Gallery of Biodiversity (Schad Gallery) is among the top visited spaces at the Royal Ontario Museum, with over 750 000 visitors a year to this gallery alone. The Schad Gallery explores the world’s biodiversity and the many factors affecting its survival in an interactive environment that engages visitors of all ages. The successful candidate will spend the majority of time working directly with the Gallery Coordinator on the creation of an in-gallery activation about climate change that can be delivered by a team of staff and volunteers to museum visitors. The successful applicant will work with numerous departments at the ROM, as well as the larger conservation community as they assist in the creation of all elements of the activation.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing excellent customer service to museum visitors. They will use experiential education techniques with real museum objects to enhance the educational value of the visitor experience and work with volunteers and staff to ensure smooth gallery operations.

In addition, the successful candidate will assist in the management of an extensive touchable specimen collection, ensuring items are accurately inputted into a database and monitoring the collection for issues of conservation concern, and take appropriate action to ensure its longevity.

The ROM is committed to fair and accessible employment practices.  Upon request, suitable accommodations are available under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) for applicants invited to an interview.
