ABOUT THE POWER PLANT and HARBOURFRONT CENTRE
The Power Plant is located at Harbourfront Centre, on Toronto's waterfront, a 10-acre site that attracts over 12 million visits each year.
The Power Plant is a key attraction of Harbourfront Centre. While the gallery is led by its own Board of Directors, Harbourfront Centre supports the gallery with maintenance and improvements to the physical site, a plethora of services and financial support. This partnership is fruitful, as the waterfront site offers many visitors a first-time experience with internationally-acclaimed, contemporary art.
For more than three decades, Harbourfront Centre has been at the cutting edge of all that is current and creative, bringing together the best in both Canadian culture and the rich mosaic of cultures from across our nation and around the world. An innovative not-for-profit cultural organization, Harbourfront Centre works with over 450 community organizations and hosts more than 4,000 events a year. Approximately 12.5 million people visit the site annually, cementing Harbourfront Centre's position as a leading international showcase for theatre, dance, literature, music, film, visual arts, and fine craft.
Harbourfront Centre was formed as a non-profit charitable organization with a mandate to organize and present public events and to operate a ten-acre site on Toronto’s lakefront, encompassing York Quay and John Quay (south of Queens Quay West). Since its inception, Harbourfront Centre has been introducing audiences to artists and art forms that would not normally be seen in commercial venues, exploring new and bold frontiers in the arts and creative expression. The site of The Power Plant and Harbourfront Centre is at Toronto’s recently revitalized Waterfront, a stone’s throw from Toronto’s downtown and financial core.
