The Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) is seeking an Access to Justice Project Officer who will provide research and coordination support to the QCGN for the establishment and maintenance of an official language minority community legal association.
The Project Officer will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Access to Justice project by performing duties including, but not limited to, conducting research, providing legal information, interpreting data obtained from the QCGN’s April forum on Access to Justice, coordinating meetings, fostering productive discussions, and engaging with important actors in the public and not-for-profit sectors.
The QCGN is an incorporated not-for-profit organization that identifies, explores, and addresses strategic issues affecting the development and vitality of Quebec’s English-speaking communities. The QCGN and its 53 member organizations work cooperatively and in partnership with community stakeholders, leaders, governments and institutions, to advance the interests of our minority community which counts more than 1 million English-speaking Quebecers.
Under the direction of the Director General, and under the guidance of a steering committee composed of senior jurists from multiple areas of the law sector, the incumbent will maintain momentum from a Forum on Access to Justice by establishing relationships and creating partnerships that will build and sustain a new community justice organization. The incumbent will research and identify potential themes to be explored for future collaborations as well as funding opportunities. The incumbent will schedule meetings of the steering committee on Access to Justice and take minutes; research and prepare materials for the committee and the project as a whole; support individual members of the committee in their assigned tasks; identify opportunities for promotion and visibility of the project; attend conferences and symposiums; liaise with community partners and stakeholders; identify opportunities for funding and write funding applications; and maintain contact lists and electronic filing system for the project


Qualifications/Job requirements:
Post-secondary education in law or related field. Returning student at the undergraduate or graduate level;
Knowledge and interest in Constitutional law, especially as it pertains to minority language rights;
Fully bilingual, English and French;
Knowledge of Quebec's English-speaking community. Knowledge of official language communities in the rest of Canada a definite asset;
Advanced Office user adept at working in a Windows environment, e.g. MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; as well as web tools like Doodle, Survey Monkey and Mail Chimp;
Superior writing skills in English and excellent oral communications skills in both French and English.
