Archives Assistant
The United Church Archives -- located in the library of the University of Winnipeg – is looking for someone with a passion for history, who has excellent communication skills, and thrives when working independently. No experience is necessary, but an interest in working in the heritage field is a must.
The Archives Assistant will work on two main projects over the summer: processing our Methodist and Presbyterian records (dating from 1884 to1925), and digitizing and uploading archival "treasures". Through these projects the Assistant will gain experience in appraisal, description, basic preservation management, Rules for Archival Description, finding aid creation, AtoM and MAIN software, Photoshop and Bridge software, creation of metadata, and basic reference services.

Qualifications – Undergraduate or graduate level student currently enrolled in archival studies, curatorial studies, information studies, library science, history, Indigenous studies, historical geography, English, religious studies, or similar field. Excellent proficiency in oral and written English, and demonstrated research ability. Ability to work independently and to communicate effectively with the staff/volunteers of The United Church of Canada and with staff of the University of Winnipeg. Experience with digitization projects and using photoshop is an asset. The United Church of Canada is an equal opportunity employer.
