COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT

Applications are invited for the position of Collections Assistant for the Tantramar Heritage Trust Inc. The successful applicant will assume collections duties for artefacts housed at the Trust's two museums: the Boultenhouse Heritage Centre (BHC), a historic house and museum situated in the Town of Sackville, NB, and the Campbell Carriage Factory Museum (CCFM) located 5 km north of the town. The Tantramar Heritage Trust is a non-profit, charitable organization, which promotes preservation of heritage resources in the Tantramar region of Southeastern New Brunswick. The Collections Assistant will be engaged in the registration, documentation, research, location, and safe handling and storage of artefacts at both museum facilities. She or he will provide cataloguing and research assistance in the developing Research and Genealogy Centre, assist in the preparation of artefacts for exhibits; deliver museum tours on occasion; perform office duties related to collections; contribute to education program development and delivery; contribute to museum animation and programming activities as appropriate, and generally assist staff and volunteers as needed.

The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an accredited Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, or Library Sciences program at the graduate or undergraduate level, or be entering the senior year of an undergraduate degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences, with the intent to pursue a career in the heritage sector. She or he will possess excellent English and Intermediate French language communication skills, as well as competence with MS computer programs and database software. The candidate will work under the supervision of the Trust's Executive Director and board members in a team environment, and also be able to work independently, demonstrating excellent work habits, strong interpersonal skills, organizational efficiency, dependability, creativity, and attention to detail.

The position will commence on May 29 and end on September 2, 2018. Remuneration is $11.00 per hour, 35 hours per week. Characteristics of the City/Region
Sackville, NB is a small university town of approximately 5,500 people and home to Mount Allison University. It is located near the border between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and, in the opposite direction, a short 30 minutes drive from the city of Moncton, NB.
