Programming Assistant (Student)
The Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History is seeking three (3) summer Programming Assistant positions for the 16-week period May 14, 2017 to September 3, 2017. Successful candidates must be willing to work flexible hours up to 35 hours over a seven-day week.
Duties: Assist in presenting and evaluating interpretive programming for visitors to the Museum of Natural History, including demonstrations, discovery carts, interactive talks, storytelling, field trips, gallery tours and special events. Respond to natural and cultural history specimen and artifact enquiries. Assist with the care, handling and interpretation of live wildlife exhibits which include amphibians, reptiles, insects and other invertebrates.
Qualifications:
A demonstrated interest and knowledge of Nova Scotia’s natural history. University credits in the natural sciences, education and/or museum studies. Interpretation experience in a museum or outdoor education environment is an asset. Experience with animal care (reptiles and amphibians) is an asset. Spoken French is an asset. Excellent communication skills and must be able to perform in a culture of service excellence. Knowledge of word processing (Word, Word Perfect) and the internet required. Successful applicants must submit to a Police Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check with satisfactory results.
Pay $16.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay
