Salary: $16.00/hr. plus 4% vacation pay for 35 hours per week.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is committed to providing high quality and engaging programming & services to our public. We are looking for a student for an approximate 16-week period from mid-May to early September, 2018. Successful candidates must be willing to work flexible working hours up to 35 hours a week over a seven day week. This is a casual opportunity with an anticipated end date of September 7, 2018.

Primary Duties: Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Visitor Services and Interpretive Programming, the French Language Heritage Programming Assistant will assist Museum staff to research, develop and deliver first person interpretive programs that will engage target audiences in meaningful and fun ways, and create a greater variety in museum experiences. The successful candidate can channel their energies to any number of presentations inspired by our rich maritime heritage.

Main Areas of work: Museum Galleries, CSS Acadia.

Qualifications: The candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution, having preferably completed at least one year of study. Must be registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) on-line candidate inventory (www.young-canada-works.canada.ca) and meet the eligibility criteria of the program. Good communication and organizational skills are required. Computer proficiency with common software and web search engines is required. Interpersonal and problem solving skills are needed and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. A passion for history and people should be demonstrated. Candidate must also be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision. Strong assets would include, previous experience with public program development and presentation skills a similar setting as heritage, arts or cultural field. Assets would also include fluency in French and another second language, knowledge of region’s natural and cultural history, Super Host or equivalent, certification or training in a museum studies, education, tourism or hospitality programme.
