ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Huble Homestead/Giscome Portage Heritage Society operates and maintains the Huble Homestead Historic Site, located 40km north of Prince George. The historic site features the historic Huble house and ten other period and recreated buildings, and sees over 7000 visitors from May to October. The site is open daily from Victoria Day to Labour Day for guided tours, public special events, lunch and shopping in the General Store, and school programming. The staff enhance the only living history site in the district, and play a significant role in maintaining the historic house and sharing our heritage with our community and visitors from around the world.


POSITION OUTLINE:
Under the supervision of the Store Manager and Program Manager, the Senior Interpreter will take on increased responsibility with regard to leading Heritage Interpreters in identified priorities, hosting visitors, assisting in the planning and execution of special events, identifying safety concerns, and assisting with site maintenance projects as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mentor Heritage Interpreters in their duties and assist them to reach and maintain expected service standards.
- Assist Heritage Interpreters in making efficient daily and weekly work plans.
- Conduct guided tours of the buildings and grounds of Huble Homestead to regular visitors, school programs, and tour groups.
- Assume an increased role in assisting with the execution of school tours, special events, and site rentals.
- Lead games and activities for visitors of various ages, and present demonstrations of pioneer activities such as churning butter, making ice cream, etc.
- Perform food related duties, such as food preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning.
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the General Store, which include customer sales, product restocking, inventory, store accounting, cash handling, and manual credit card transactions.
- Ensure the gardens are regularly weeded and maintained.
- Ensure the cleanliness and accessibility of staff storage areas.
- Assist with general site maintenance.
- All other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education (currently enrolled in and returning to a post-secondary program).
- Previous summer experience in heritage organization (preferably), a not-for-profit charity, or tourism.
- Demonstrate critical problem solving, forward thinking, and initiative.
- Ability to exercise integrity and good judgment.
- Retail experience and excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to function effectively in an ever-changing environment and deal with frequent interruptions.
- Knowledge of local history and geography, as well as old-fashioned crafts and activities.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to lift, move and carry up to 20 kg.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 and Food Safe an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Huble Homestead operations is an asset.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5 or better) and access to a motor vehicle.
- Criminal Records Check.
- Five-day workweek, which includes weekends and holidays, both on and off site.

Huble Homestead Historic Site is located 40km north of the city of Prince George, BC, in the Giscome Portage Regional Park. Huble Homestead Historic Site is one of a group of ten museums, historic sites, and galleries in the Prince George region who work and market together on a continuing basis; staff from each site promote the events and offerings of the others.
