PROJECT: TteS CULTURAL HERITAGE STUDY
SUPERVISOR: LANDS, LEASE & TAX MANAGER
POSITION TITLE: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
TERMS: May 7, 2018 until Aug 31, 2018

The purpose of this position is for performing a variety of research related duties for the entire Project Management Team. Additionally, this position will be dealing with the management of communication, records (documentary and oral history), interviewing and other daily activities that support the TteS Cultural and Heritage Study (CHS).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides professional, administrative, and clerical support; in accordance, with the approved practices, policies, budgets, standards and guidelines.
• Researches documentation and reviews past interviews relevant to the project, including searching archives and libraries, copying articles and other material, and formulating and maintaining a bibliography.
• Assists with oral history interviews and transcripts.
• Assists with Genealogical focus groups.
• Keeps records and provides clerical duties including scheduling meetings and appointments, and managing staff meetings, schedules and calendars, as required.
• Maintains a project communication system to ensure deadlines are met on reports and correspondence and follows up with staff and TteS community as necessary.
• Prepares a variety of correspondence, transcribing and formatting from dictation, reports, hand written notes, letters, memorandums, and other documents and distributing as directed.
• Conducts scanning and filing and maintains a data management system.
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) policies, standards and procedures.
• Maintains confidentiality on all matters of the Project management team.

All other duties as related to the role as required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Certification, Education and Experience

• Experience working with First Nations is preferred.
• Working knowledge of natural resource and cultural heritage protection and management laws, policies and procedures is preferred.
• Experience in First Nation cultural heritage resource.
• Must pass Criminal Record Check.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft suite of products.
• Ability to take initiative and to work independently with limited supervision.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Advanced filing skills.
• Proven ability to execute advanced office procedures and practices.
• Strong tact and diplomacy.
• Must have strong teamwork and cooperation skills, combined with service orientation, critical thinking, problem solving and judgement skills.
• Ability to work in multi-cultural settings.

HOURS OF WORK: Normal day shift – 7 hours per day. Non – normal shift may be required.
