JOB OPPORTUNITY: MUSEUM COLLECTIONS ASSISTANTS AT THE NORWICH MUSEUM

The Norwich and District Museum is seeking applicants for two temporary student position of Museum Collections Assistant from June to September. This position is 40 hours a week, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9-5 daily and pays $14.00 an hour.

The primary duty of this position is handling, photographing and collecting data and information on artifacts and entering that information into a new collections management system. This position will also involve providing tours for museum visitors, working as part of a team to plan, prepare and lead educational programs and special events, promoting the museum through social media platforms, blogs, posters and articles, and keeping the museum buildings in a clean and orderly state.

Preferred applicants will be enrolled in a post-secondary program of museum studies, history, English or education or a senior high school student intending to pursue studies in these areas and who has a demonstrated interest in history. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, computer skills and an attention to detail and accuracy. They must be self-motivated and able to stay on task to work as part of a team or independently. They must demonstrate good interpersonal and customer service skills and be comfortable with a leadership role.

The Norwich Museum is located in the village of Norwich in Southwestern Ontario and consists of several historic buildings which tell the story of Norwich Township’s Quaker, rural and agricultural roots.
