About the Lucan Area Heritage and Donnelly Museum:

Founded in 1995 the Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum (LAHDM) serves the
town of Lucan and the surrounding area. Located in the heart of Lucan, it is an integral part of the community and serves as an important cultural space. We seek to preserve the region’s history and educate the community about it. From the indigenous origins of the area, to the establishment of the Wilberforce Settlement, and the notorious Donnelly story, Lucan has a fascinating and culturally diverse history.

About the position:

The LAHDM is currently seeking a student for the position of Museum Registrar. The Museum Registrar will participate in the museum’s ongoing project to improve documentation of its collection by researching artifacts, and updating/creating detailed catalog records in the museum’s database. Tasks include, but are not limited to: adding detailed descriptions to database records, photographing/scanning artifacts, and adding condition reports and location records to database.

Qualifications:

- Candidate should be currently enrolled in a related field of study at a Canadian university (ex. History, Museum Studies, Library and Information Science, Art History, etc.) and returning to study in the Fall.
- Previous volunteer/work experience the heritage field is an asset
- Experience in a computerized work environment, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel. Experience working with PastPerfect Museum Software is an asset but not required
- Self-motivating and able to work both independently and in a team environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong research skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Must meet eligibility requirements for the Young Canada Works (YCW) Summer Jobs program
