Position Summary
• Conduct group tours, educational programs, help with special events and site orientation;
• Interpret museum exhibits and collection;
• Assist museum visitors with woodworking projects (please note training will be provided)
• Deliver school and public programs;
• Complete admission and sales transactions;
• Support research related to new exhibit development;
• Assist with museum administration;
• Provide general office support, including but not limited to, data entry, filing, and photocopying.
• Assist with ongoing facility and grounds maintenance;
• Hours set on a rotating schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays April-August;
• Assist with collections management;
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Competencies
• MUST BE ENROLLED IN AND RETURNING TO POST SECONDARY STUDIES IN FALL OF 2018;
• Must meet eligibility requirements for Young Canada Works summer employment program www.pch.gc.ca;
• University or college students currently studying museum studies, history, art history, engineering, physical sciences, drama, education and woodworking/carpentry is preferred;
• Experience working with young children, school groups, summer camps and general public;
• Previous experience in educational program delivery, public speaking and cash handling;
• Experience working in a museum, gallery, heritage site, or educational institution;
• Must be able to work at more than one Cultural Services location on an as needed basis;
• A satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), including Vulnerable Sector, will be required at successful candidates expense;
• Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
• Valid First Aid/CPR-C certification required prior to start date
• Valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license and access to transportation;
• Bilingualism (English and French) preferred; additional languages considered an asset
• Carpentry or woodworking skills considered an asset;
• Intermediate skills in MS Office;
• Proven customer service skills;
• Some computer skills required;
• Safety oriented and possess safety awareness;
Position may be extended to include hours September- December.
