Duration: Full time (40 hours/week), 10 weeks (May 21-July 27 2018)
Salary: $14.00 per hour

Day Camp Description
The Saint Columba House Cultural Diversity & Community Development Day Camp is an affordable and bilingual day camp that caters to the specific needs of local families and the community of Pointe Saint Charles. The five week camp runs throughout the month of July and will focus on providing diverse opportunities to learn about different cultures through outings, guest facilitators and activities led by staff. Fun, stimulating and collaborative projects and activities will help children turn this knowledge into action; to understand and promote the important role cultural diversity plays in our community.

Tasks and Responsibilities
The Community Engagement & Learning Camp Coordinator will:
-Plan, organize and book all activities, projects, outings and transit for all groups during the five week day camp
-Prepare all necessary supplies for the camp and process camper registration information
-Support the Day Camp Director in planning and preparing for staff training week
-Animate and participate in a one week training session and contribute to the evaluation of training to ensure its yearly success and development
-Be responsible for the safety and well-being of a group of 15-20 children of the Pointe-Saint-Charles community, many of whom experience learning, behavioural or social-emotional difficulties
-Support the team of animators in completing their daily tasks and responsibilities as needed
-Alongside the Teen Programs Coordinator, support and supervise a group of eight counsellors-in-training (aged 14-15) in developing their professional and interpersonal skills
-Plan and animate activities for children that build on cultural diversity & community development
-Promote good physical health through stimulating recreational activities and outings
-Promote social and emotional well-being through team-building and cooperative activities
-Prepare for and actively participate in staff meetings twice per week
-Participate in post-camp evaluations, inventory and clean-up

Candidate Profile

-Bilingualism: candidates must have English and French written and verbal skills (required)
-We encourage the application of candidates who have studied in areas related to cultural studies, community development, education, recreation & leisure, social services, and special care counseling
-Experience working with children with challenging behaviours and/or socio-emotional difficulties
-Sensitivity towards children with specific needs, including learning and/or developmental delays
-Strong group management skills
-Experience with program planning and animating activities for children
-Ability to work both independently and as a team, to take initiative and responsibility, to demonstrate creativity and flexibility
-Capacity to manage stress, to be flexible and adaptive, to problem solve and to seek guidance when needed
-Must be a full-time student
