EDUCATION ASSISTANT
The Education department at the Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN) is currently seeking applications for an Education Assistant positions. Responsibilities include designing and delivering art education that is adapted for toddlers, children and teens in a day camp setting. Interpreters work closely with AGN staff to adapt and deliver thematic gallery and studio based programming that engages young learners to look at, think and talk about modern and contemporary Canadian art, including the AGN’s permanent collections and special exhibitions.

Other responsibilities include
• Attending training sessions and exhibition talks as needed
• Conducting independent research on artists, art movements and exhibitions
• Instructing and supervising children who are in the care of the Gallery
• Developing and leading indoor and outdoor games
• Adhering to AGN Health and Safety policies and other AGN policies
• Data entry and word processing
• Upon hiring, the Education Assistant is required to obtain a valid police record check

QUALIFICATIONS
• Meet the Eligibility Requirements of YCW
• have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job, pursuing a postgraduate diploma or degree in fine arts (visual arts), education, museum studies, art history or related field
• Have knowledge of a variety of art-making techniques
• Have experience working with and teaching art to children ages 3-10
• Enthusiasm, creativity and a commitment to provide a positive experience for children of all ages and abilities
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• A proven ability to work independently as well in a team
• Responsibility, punctuality and reliability.

Experience in the following areas is considered a strong asset
• Experience as a visual artist and/or art instructor
• Knowledge of modern and contemporary Canadian art
• Experience working in a museum or art gallery setting
• Experience working with children with disabilities
• Have not previously participated in a summer work experience program

SALARY AND HOURS
This full-time 12-week summer position is from June 11 – August 31, 2018. Hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hourly rate of pay is $14.00/hr. Applicants with disabilities may request a reduced schedule if needed.
