The position of Education Summer Programs Assistant at the Woodstock Art Gallery requires a student at the post-secondary undergraduate level pursuing a degree in Art History/Studio or Education. The primary role of the Education Programs Assistant will be the development and facilitation of the six week long, full-day, summer ART CAMP classes for children ranging in ages from 5 to 12 years old. The candidate should have demonstrable strengths in leading, instructing and supervising children as well as assigning tasks to helpers. Experience with creating art from a wide range of materials and knowledge of safe use of tools is a requirement. Experience working with children would be beneficial. Strong time management, problem solving and communication skills coupled with a positive attitude are desirable. Experience working or volunteering in public gallery, museum or library would be considered an asset.

The position of Education Programs Assistant will be of particular interest to a candidate who wishes to pursue further academic work in education, studio or Art History, in addition to working in museums or galleries. The Woodstock Art Gallery is a small and very active gallery where the student will be given many responsibilities and opportunities to learn and develop. The student will work closely with the Head of Education to get a solid foundation in educational arts programming within the context of the other functions and priorities of an innovative municipal gallery.

Salary rate is $16.00 per hour. Scheduled 35 hour work week which will include weekends and alternate shift hours. May be required to work overtime.
This position is a sixteen week contract to start May 7 and run to August 24, 2018.
