Job Description: This temporary summer position is full-time (35 hours per week). Schedule includes working weekends and some holidays (time in lieu will be given for those days). It is based at the Forbes Homestead and Pioneer Hospital.
The Historical Site Interpreter will research and provide an accurate and colourful history of the site to tours of groups and individuals. They may be expected to wear an historical costume. They will also become proficient in the public events currently offered. They will be expected to create a new event or improve an existing one. The interpreter will be taught the proper care and handling of artifacts and will assist in the redecoration of the period room settings.
The Historic Site Interpreter will be expected to assist with special events (i.e. Canada Day and Heritage Day). They will assist with marketing and promotion of the facility, supervise day to day operations and help with the heritage gardens and grounds. For those bilingual in both official languages there would be an opportunity to create French programs and promotional material.
The Forbes site will be the primary location for this position, but some duties will be performed at the Grande Prairie Museum and the Heritage Discovery Centre. This position would be ideal for those with an interest in local history and/ or education. It will require someone who is equally at home working alone or with a group and has excellent customer service skills. Qualifications include a valid class 5 driver’s licence, proficient in Microsoft Office programs and minimum one year of post-secondary education and/or experience. A current Frist Aid and CPR certificate an asset. Please send application through the City of Grande Prairie website only.
