The Junior Museum Assistant – Collections will assist the Site Curator in the transformation of a large building at Ameliasburgh Heritage Village in order to accommodate a large natural history collection. The student will also catalogue items from the natural history collection, and assist in the design of interpretive materials and programming.
Length of Employment:
13 weeks (Summer/Fall 2018)
Anticipated Start: July 2, 2018
Anticipated End: September 28, 2018
Responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Site Curator and a Senior Museum Assistant – Collections:
• Catalogue and photograph items from the de Vries Natural Heritage Collection with the purpose of updating our database (PastPerfect)
• Assist with the design of interpretive materials for the exhibit
• Interact with visitors and discuss the de Vries Natural Heritage Collection to generate increased public interest.
• Design and assemble materials/resources
• Identify potential partnerships and collaboration with people and organizations
• Project evaluation; organize and present audience contribution statistics as related to the project
Qualifications and Skills:
Enrolled in high school
Enjoy thinking of new and dynamic ways to connect with museum visitors
Strong organizational, research, project and time management skills
Excellent communication, judgement and decision making skills
Responsible, motivated and committed
Interested in the heritage and culture of Prince Edward County and Canada
Have experience mentoring others (e.g. volunteers)
Be familiar with Microsoft Office applications
The successful candidate must also meet the following conditions of employment:
Must have own transportation and an Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License
Must provide a satisfactory “vulnerable sector” police check
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends
Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
Must be willing to undertake Health and Safety training that is provided
Language of Work:
English (fluent); French (basic) is an asset.
