The Thomas Williams House stands as an elegant symbol of local life during the Victorian era. The Thomas Williams House team provides historical interpretation during regular operating hours as well as during special events. The Thomas Williams House is a mix of exhibition and food service in which the visitor can participate in experiences that bolsters interpretation. It is open to the public from June 14 to September 2, Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. It host many rental events and caters to all age groups. The integration of the heritage interpretation to the food service is crucial to a successful visitor’s experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the interpretation of the Thomas Williams House, creating period themed experiences and supervising the Verandah Tearoom food service. The Candidate will also supervise 5 interpreters who are responsible for the operation of the Verandah Tearoom as well as a variety of other special activities on heritage themes such as historical readings, Victorian themed birthday parties, period experiences, plays or concerts.
The student must have completed one (1) year of university majoring in Education, History, Tourism, Hospitality, Recreation or related fields. Familiarity with heritage settings, food service and supervisory duties is required. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills in both official languages with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts as well. The position requires self-motivation, excellent customer service skills, good organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is required. Knowledge of basic food handling rules is required. Knowledge of history, geography and culture of Greater Moncton would be an asset. Experience with cultural animation, interpretation or as a tour guide would also be an asset.
