Assiniboine Park Conservancy has a need to fill one (1) Volunteer Resources Assistant, Interpretive Programs. Reporting to the Manager, Volunteer Resources. The job objective is to take a supporting role in the development of the Youth Volunteer Interpreter program. The Volunteer Resources Assistant – Youth Interpretive Programs will research under the direction of Education and Program, staff up-to-date innovative methods of engaging and connecting visitors with our conservation messages. The VRA will assist with training, scheduling and mentoring youth volunteers on interpretive techniques learned from best practices in Zoos, Aquariums and Museums throughout North America. The VRA will support the growth of the youth interpretive volunteer program. The VRA will use the current knowledge base as well as support volunteers in learning using the San Diego Zoo Global Academy on-line learning platform.

Excellent people skills and the ability to use creative and innovative thinking to solve both unique and everyday problems, along with personal pride in delivering outstanding service to internal and external customers alike are required for this role. Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary degree in education, social sciences, human resources, adult education, recreation management or volunteer management would be an asset. Good computer skills are a requirement, while French language skills are an asset.

The position begins May 14th and ends on August 24th, 2017 and work on a full-time basis (37.5 hours weekly) within Assiniboine Park and Zoo. Weekend and occasional evening work will be required. The successful candidates may be required to provide documentation of physical capability to perform the duties of the job and will be subject to a Criminal Record Check.
