The Jasper-Yellowhead Museum & Archives seeks two Community Program and Outreach Coordinators for summer employment starting May 14, 2018 and lasting until September 3, 2018. (35hrs/week, 16 weeks, $18.00/hr.)

Duties include:

a. Work with the Archivist to develop and implement specific outreach/interpretation programs for each offsite location; Maligne Lake, The Jasper Sky Tram and Jasper Park Lodge.

b. Become familiar with the content of the galleries and learn about the history of Jasper, Jasper National Park and the Yellowhead Corridor and then provide historical tours through the galleries to various tour groups throughout June July and August.

c. Prepare an outline of the outreach program content and relevant supplies required to the Museum Manager and Archivist for approval before the program is promoted and/or delivered.

d. Purchase program supplies as required based on the budget provided for each program and provide receipts for all purchases.

e. Conduct outreach programs at each of the three locations starting in early June and ending at the end of August.

f. Provide programming during Parks Day, Indigenous Day and Canada Day and any other days that may provide the museum with an opportunity to promote the museum and the history of the area.

g. Work with the Archivist to research and develop special programs geared towards the shoulder and winter seasons including our annual spring and falls outings, mini summer outings and winter coffee hours.

h. Create an inventory of supplies and equipment remaining at the end of the outreach programs.

i. Ensure that the Museum, its artifacts, displays and assets are protected from damage and to setup and tear down the program leaving the space in usable/presentable condition at the conclusion of each program.

j. Develop evaluations/surveys related to your specific area of focus, implement them during the course of the summer and present them to the Museum Manager, Archivist and board of directors from time to time.

Skills required:

a. Strong research skills.
b. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
c. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
d. An ability to communicate to large groups of people, up to 50 at a time.
e. Highly motivated and interested in learning.
d. Good Microsoft Office computer skills. (Word and Excel)
e. Good organisational skills.
f. Social Media skills is an asset.
g. An ability to speak one or more languages other than English is an asset.

Since this is a Young Canada Works position the following candidates may only apply:
- Is between 18 and 30 years of age
- Currently enrolled in full time post secondary studies with an interest in museum studies, heritage/history, archaeology, education or fine arts and must be returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2018.
