The St. Thomas Municipal Heritage Committee is accepting applications for a Built Heritage Research and Mapping position to start Monday, May 7th for a period of 12 weeks. We are looking for a student who is interested in local heritage and has strong GIS and graphic design skills. The successful candidate will work from a GIS computer lab at Fanshawe College in London and be required to attend monthly heritage committee meetings in St. Thomas, Ontario.

Responsibilities include:
- Help develop education and communications programs and activities to increase public awareness and knowledge of local heritage
- Assist in researching, verifying and evaluating archival and site data for existing heritage properties and/or properties of heritage interest
- Review and update existing digital Municipal Heritage Inventory using GIS
- Attend monthly St. Thomas Municipal Heritage Committee meetings to provide updates on current research and mapping projects
- Assist with ongoing evaluation and development of programming strategies to encourage the preservation of Built Heritage in St. Thomas, specifically the creation of a Heritage Conservation District for Talbot Street
- Update existing, and create new, hardcopy heritage walking tour maps and web enabled maps
- Prepare presentations boards for newly designated properties within the City of St. Thomas
- Opportunity to conduct heritage walking tours once a week in St. Thomas, to demonstrate web enabled maps to local residents and visitors to the area
