City of Thunder Bay Archives - Archives Assistant

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking a student, enrolled in a post- secondary program, preferably in archival, library or information studies, or who has taken a post-secondary course in archival studies, for a 14 week contract. Working under the supervision of the City Archivist, the student will spend the majority of their time developing a thesaurus and indexing archival records. There will also be an opportunity to scan archival photographs and documents, and research Thunder Bay history. In addition the student will benefit from job shadowing an archivist in an aspect of archival, records, management, or access and privacy work that enhances their career interest.

Duration: 14 weeks from May 14 to August 17, 2018.
Salary: $19.04/hour, working 35 hours per week.

Preference will be given to students enrolled in archival, library, or information studies, or who have taken a post-secondary course in archival studies.

Candidates must have excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills. Sound knowledge of and practical experience with computers and information technology is essential. Candidates must be fluent in English.

Experience working in an Archives, familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description (RAD), familiarity with the use of databases, experience in web page development, and knowledge of copyright legislation are considered assets.
