Employment Opportunity as Researcher/Marketing Officer under the Young Canada Works in Heritage Institutions Program with the Trinity Historical Society Archives, Trinity, NL

The successful applicant will undertake a project of ten weeks duration under the general supervision of the Volunteer Archivist and General Manager. The applicant will be expected to perform the following tasks: complete a review of the twelve virtual exhibits posted to the Trinity Historical Society website to ensure their accuracy and updated; to complete research of any new information that has been received and to development a marketing and promotional plan for the virtual exhibits; this would include suggested posts for Facebook and Twitter to raise the profile and use of the virtual exhibits and the archives in general. The student will also be responsible for assisting any researchers that visit the archives and completion of any research requests that are received.

The project will commence June 25, 2018 and is to be completed no later than September 1, 2018, unless an extension mutually agreeable to the funding agency, the Society and the incumbent is negotiated. The location of work is at the Lester-Garland House, West Street, Trinity.

The position requires a knowledge of the Trinity Historical Society, its aims and objectives, the history of Trinity and Newfoundland. Some prior experience with working in an archives would be an asset as well as prior knowledge of archives policy and procedures and/or previous experience with marketing and promotion. The person must have good reading and keyboarding skills. Completion of any archival, history, library studies or office administration courses/programs would be an asset but not required.

The applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 30 at the start of employment; be legally entitled to work in Canada; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; be registered in the YCW candidate inventory employment data bank; be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; was a full-time student in the semester before applying for this position and have the intention to return to full-time studies in the semester following the end of this position; not have another full-time position and meet the eligibility criteria as described above.

Basic French and fluency in English is required for this position.
