Founded in 1909, Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School (ECS) is an all-girls’ independent K-11 school in Westmount, Quebec. Its archive consists of photographs, textual documents, books, artefacts and uniforms. Significant work was done by a YCW student during the summer of 2016, including the spearheading of a photograph digitization project as well as an in-depth inventory of the collection, and we would like to continue this momentum. Most of the collection is in English, although some is in French.

The main objectives of this project are to:
-Continue the photo digitization / cataloguing project;
-Create a RAD finding aid for the entire collection;
-Appraise, organize, and catalog some of our backlog; and
-Conceptualize and implement an online presence for the school’s archival collection.

The ideal candidate will:
-Be a student from either an Information Studies Master’s or CEGEP program;
-Have taken courses in archival arrangement and description;
-Be familiar with RAD;
-Be bilingual (strong English, intermediate French);
-Have strong computer skills;
-Have a meticulous attention to detail; and
-Meet all the criteria determined by the YCW eligibility requirements:
-are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
-are legally entitled to work in Canada;
-will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
-are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
-will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;
-have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
-intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.

ECS is strongly committed to employment equity within its community and supports diversity in its teaching, learning and work environments. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including Aboriginal people, visible minorities, new Canadians, and persons with disabilities.
