SALARY RANGE:
$19.68/hr - $22.11/hr, 30 hour work week

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Deliver variety of museum programs for children and family groups. Develop museum-based family activities, under supervision. Learn and understand provided historical information. Complete research on an assigned topic. Provide excellent customer and client service. Successful candidate will work weekends and holidays during work term. Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position. All applicants must be registered in the YCW candidates’ inventory.
Note: Hiring at the TRCA is contingent on the clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only when they have been selected as the leading candidate.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Registration in history or a related discipline in university. Applicants must be returning to school as a full-time student in fall 2018.
• Experience working with children in a leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated interest in 19th century Canadian history.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a demanding customer-based environment.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:
Under general supervision the Family Programmers will:
1. Deliver a wide variety of public programs including interactive discovery stations, artifact discovery program, and Hands-on History discovery centre. Organize all materials, photographs, and artifacts required for successful delivery of the program. Interact with children and families, introduce historical themes, and create a fun and inviting atmosphere.
2. Deliver public programs during our Canada Day celebration “Party Like its 1867” and other summer special events.
3. Learn and understand information related to life in 19th century Ontario. Learn information required to deliver previously designed programs.
4. Research and design in-building interactive Discovery Station each. Evaluate current visitor engagement with building, design activity, and write program plan. Create props and signage.
5. Research, source, and develop one document-based Exploration Kit.
6. Read minimum of 3 scholarly articles (or equivalent) about 19th century Canada. Prepare for and deliver to programming team an oral summary of themes and ideas expressed in the articles.
7. Work with Heritage Programmer to design, create, and maintain props needed for programs.
8. Wear and care for the assigned costume articles and accessories according to the guidelines set out by the Costume Department.
9. Work in a safe manner and follow the safety procedures outlined in the safety manuals.
