The Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum is owned by the Town of Minto and operated in partnership between the Town of Minto and a group of dedicated volunteers with support from the County of Wellington Museum and Archives. The Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum is a cultural heritage centre for the interpretation of the social and economic role the railway has played in the history of the Town of Palmerston, the Town of Minto and surrounding area. Its goal is the collecting, preserving and the presentation of relevant materials and artifacts through exhibitions, programmes, community events and research facilities to the community and its patrons.

The Railway Heritage Museum is seeking an individual inspired and passionate about the history of the railway and interested in an exciting opportunity to learn and experience a wide variety of Museum operations to fill the role of Museum Coordinator. The selected individual will assist staff and volunteers with the following:
- Updating and consolidation of existing collections records into collections software
- Updating collections information, condition reporting and descriptions
- Developing and refining procedures on overall collections inventory project beginning in late 2018
- Working with staff and volunteers to develop a comprehensive artifact storage and retrieval system
- Working with staff and volunteers to develop programs based on artifacts for exhibition, education and research files
- Assisting staff and volunteers with initiating a detailed deaccessioning policy and procedure strategy.
- Accepting and processing incoming donations
- Researching artifacts and donations for provenance to support value of usage in various programs, collections improvement, informational needs and overall growth of museums goals.
- Working with staff, volunteers and patrons to enhance the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum and its goals of preserving the community history and supporting its mandate.
- Working with staff and volunteers to develop events and activities to draw residents and tourists to the Museum and to educate them about the history of the railway.
- Working with staff on the creation and implementation of a social media and marketing plan.

This position is 35 hours a week (5 days, 7 hours per day) and does require a commitment to weekends.
A valid drivers license is required

Qualifications Required Include:
- enrolled in and returning to post-secondary education in one of the following fields of study: museum studies, education, history, and/ or culture.
- proficient with MS Office, internet, website content management, social media and data base management
- above average ability to interact with people of all ages and abilities
- above average written and verbal communication skills. .
