An Archivist is required for the Westbank Museum located at 2376 Dobbin Rd. Westbank, BC.

The summer placement for our Archivist is required to keep history alive and expand the information the Westbank Museum has available to the public. Working closely with the Manager and community partners, they will conduct research relevant to Westbank History, paying focus to the history of local First Nations. This archival work would include, but is not limited to: renaming digital photos so they are easily searchable; organizing hard copy photos and documents by subject; using acid free paper and other methods to protect hard copies of documents; digitizing photos, newspapers, and records; labeling key people/places/events in historical media using computer software; updating historical research binders that are available to the public; using photos and research to put together new binders for our library; and transcribing photos from CDs to USB devices or portable hard drives.

The successful candidate will have passion and enthusiasm to bring forth unique and innovative educational project implementation. This position also provides opportunities to enhance studies in arts, history and culture. This will be a full time 16 week position beginning May 14th, 2018. The position will be offered at $14.00 per hour and the candidate will be assuming the responsibility to coordinate, participate, facilitate, work with professionals, research and write up historical information.

The position is open to post-secondary students returning to fill-time studies in the next academic year
Preference will be given to students with outgoing positive attitudes. The applicant must:
• be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

• be legally entitled to work in Canada;

• be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

• be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

• not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;

• have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and

• intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
