Position Title: Museum Interpreter: 1800-1890's Interpretive Centre
Length of Assignment- 16 weeks
Expected Start Date - May 7, 2018
Wage per hour: $11.65 plus 4% vacation pay
Work Week Details: 35 hours per week, 5 days, 7 hrs per day

Must work, be available and willing to work weekends.

Interpreter for the 1800-1890's Interpretive Centre is a full time summer position. Student must be willing and able to work weekends as required. Actual start date may change to reflect the summer programming needs of the HMASJA.

General duties: to assist in the development, organization and implementation of the HMASJA summer interpretive programming activities. Working as part of the HMASJA Interpretive team, you will be participating in project tasks which you will carry out from start to finish. Duties also include performing guided tours and scripted presentations to both small and large audiences, creating interactive activities and promotional communications for the Museum and its programs; establishing and maintaining client listings, scheduling and visitor profiling. Other duties as assigned by the Curator. This job will appeal to those students who are pursuing studies in education, history, heritage or museum studies, anthropology, communications or performing arts. Other relevant background and experience is considered. Experience with a varied demographic is important - working with children from different age groups and backgrounds, senior citizens, members of the general public.

Minimum qualifications: 1st Year University or 2nd year of college and the ability to perform in front of an audience. Students must be fluent in oral and English and enjoy working with the general public, be able to work independently and as part of a team, be responsible and take verbal and written instructions in a cooperative manner. The ability to converse in the French language is considered an asset but not required.

The Museum caters to a diverse public including Newcomers to Winnipeg, recent immigrants, seniors, schools, day-cares, and the general public.
Situated in the historic parishes of St. Charles and St. James, the museum is a 15 minute walk to The Assiniboine Park lyric theatre, zoo, and pavilion. We partner with various cultural and heritage organizations such as Heritage Winnipeg, Louis Riel Institute, First Nations Elders groups, Folklorama, Fringe Winnipeg, City of Winnipeg Museums, the world renowned Human Rights Museum, Libraries, and schools. We have a diverse population in our area and a highly visible tourist trade with visitors coming from as far away as Japan, Columbia and Russia.
