Characteristics of Village of Winnipegosis located in the Mossey River Municipality

Winnipegosis is a small, full service village located at the southern tip of Lake Winnipegosis. We are part of the Mossey River Municipality. Our museums serve a unique role in this corner of the province as they preserve the history of a people that have gathered at this site for over 10 000 years. The southern tip of Lake Winnipegosis was a converging point of early indigenous trade routes and La Verendrye built a fort here in 1741 at the request of the Cree and Assiniboine natives. Preserving this history and the history of the many immigrants who chose to settle here is a priority for the Museum Board and involving our young people in this experience is of extreme importance if this objective is to be truly met. There are two museums (both having Provincial Heritage designation) as well as eight other historical sites in the area.
This village has many opportunities for outdoor recreation as it has a beach and camping park within the village limits. The Mossey River cuts through the community. There are many opportunities to camp, boat, swim, fish, canoe, bird watch, and/or go walking or hiking. There both quad and biking trails. There are several hunting lodges in the community. Winter brings the opportunity to skate, play hockey, curl, ski-doo on groomed trails or simply enjoy the outdoors.
