Wage Rate: $18.34 per hour

Shift:
35 to 40 hours per week, including day/evening shifts, weekdays and weekends - must work Canada Day and potentially August 7 (Civic Holiday).

Job Summary: To plan, co-ordinate and deliver seasonal and specialty children's camp programs and assist with the preparation and delivery of museum special events.

Responsibilities:
• Plans, coordinates and delivers summer camp programs that introduce children and/or youth to the museum’s history and local environment, and to basic museum concepts.
• Delivers program activity instructions to camp participants who are at various levels of skills and ages.
• Conducts hands-on activities appropriate to the program themes.
• Develops a program and resource information reference document.
• Organizes, leads and participates in planned activities.
• Interacts with participants’ parents and caregivers to provide program information.
• Adheres to all policies, safety and security guidelines as outlined in Divisional Policy and Procedure manuals.
• Monitors camp supplies effectively with respect to availability and budget.
• Assembles the supplies needed for activities, crafts and cooking programs.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are available and meet Health and Safety Standards.
• Assists in the promotion of programs and events to the local community.
• Evaluates the program and provides written post-program feedback.
• Assists in general camp duties and clean up.
• Assists with and participates in the planning, preparation and running of museum special events.
• Attends and participates in all orientation/training sessions, staff meetings and close out activities.
• Wears historic costume or camp t-shirt as required.

Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in school full-time and returning to school full-time in the fall.
• Experience in children’s and /or youth environments.
• Knowledge related to camp programming such as: theatre, history, environmental studies, art programming, community engagement, education.
• Experience in teaching, leading and presenting to groups.
• Ability to foster cooperative working relationships and show judgment and sensitivity in dealing with the public.
• Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
• Organizational and program planning skills.
• Good communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Standard First Aid/CPR Certification required.
• Candidate must attend “New Employee Orientation” training run by the City of Toronto.
• A Police Reference Check will be required as a condition of employment.
Skills Required:
Computer skills (Word and Excel);
First aid certificate;
Spoken languages in addition to English an asset.

Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled in school full time and returning to college or university in September. This summer job may be contingent on Government of Canada funding through the Young Canada Works program. Gibson House Museum is an 1851 historic house located in the community of Willowdale, in the centre of North York, a suburb of Toronto. The museum interprets the rural farm history of the Gibson Family, the family's immigration story as well as David Gibson's political involvement in the Rebellion of 1837.
Gibson House Museum offers hands-on history programs to education and community groups, 7 weeks of summer Arts & Heritage Camp as well as numerous history based special events. The museum hosts an active Youth Volunteer program as well as volunteer quilters and weavers.
