Grand Manan Island is located at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy with a population of about 2,400. An active fishing community reached by a daily ferry system with multiple trips per day, it is a picturesque, nature laden island first settled in 1785 but used seasonally by the First Nations for thousands of years. The island is well-known by bird watchers, whale watchers, hikers, kayakers, beach combers, artists and photographers. Most amenities are available including a hospital. Tourism is active in the summer with places to stay and a summer festival held by the Rotarians, a Summers End Folk Festival, an amazing community Museum and Archives, an Art Gallery and a Marine Research Station with a small Marine Natural History Museum. The Tourism Association website is grandmanannb.com; Village of Grand Manan Photo page has a link to the lighthouse webcams - http://villageofgrandmananc.netfirms.com/photos/. Low price, shared accommodations are available on the property if required.
