Under the banner of FIXT POINT Arts & Media, The Tale of a Town is a large-scale oral history project with national reach and community significance. Its ongoing goal is to collect the oral histories of individuals and communities across Canada, creating a national archive of stories, interviews, and audio elements and building the Canadian narrative and identity.
Between June and October 2017, The Tale of a Tow - Canada will see our mobile recording studio travel all the way up Highway 11 to interview citizens in towns and cities along each of the nine geographically diverse divisions along this legendary road, followed by an editing and production phase back in Toronto. This project will travel through terrain ranging from cities to farmland, crossing through the lives of so many contrasting Canadians, encouraging everyone – rural and urban, newcomers and indigenous, Franco and Anglo, young and old alike – to offer their perspectives on what they value about their community today and articulate how they envision making our communities stronger in the future. Our intern will help with logistics, planning, interviewing, and the creation of audio art.
