Museum Collections Management Assistant

The Missisquoi Museum is looking for a student to work as a collections management assistant responsible for digitizing and entering information about museum objects from a card catalogue and ledger system into a digital software program.

Candidates should be familiar with basic computer skills and have a comfortable knowledge base about computer data input. The position requires good interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French, an appreciation of history and historic objects, and a willingness to learn and work within a small non-profit rural community museum.

The project will commence Monday June 4th 2018 to Friday August 10th 2018 for a period of ten weeks. The candidate should be in the senior year of high school, in CEGEP or pursuing undergraduate courses at university in studies specific to History, Museum Studies, Computer Science or Technology, Arts, Library and Archives studies.

The Missisquoi Museum is a county history museum that holds its collections in three heritage sites; the Cornell Mill, Walbridge Barn and Hodge's General Store. The successful applicant will work with the main collection in the Cornell Mill site located in Stanbridge East, Quebec. The Missisquoi Museum is an equal opportunity employer and encourages participation from the Government of Canada’s job equity groups. Students must be returning to full time studies in the fall 2018. The position pays $11.25/hour at 7 hours per day, for a total of 35 hours per 5 day work week.

The summer employment position is offered through the Young Canada Works Program – Department of Canadian Heritage.
