It’s an exciting time to join the Friends of Dalnavert Museum as we enter our summer season. We are seeking a student to assist us in developing and implementing community programming during the summer, as well as developing school programming based on the Manitoba curriculum. We are pleased to announce a full-time summer position of Program Animator, reporting to the Director of Programs and Marketing.

The Program Animator will assist the Director of Programs and Marketing in creating summer programming for youth, families, and seniors, as well as assist the Education Committee in developing curriculum-based programming for schools. They will also assist the Marketing and Community Outreach Assistant in creating and distributing marketing materials through print and social media, all the while ensuring that these support the historical mandate of Dalnavert Museum and Visitors’ Centre. Our priority will be outreach to new Canadians and audiences historically underserved by the museum community.

Key activities include:
• Creating and implementing summer programing for youth, families, and seniors
• Assisting with social media, marketing, and community outreach
• Working with Dalnavert’s Education Committee to plan and develop educational programming related to community curriculum priorities for the school year (with focus on new immigrants and cultural reconciliation)
• Research; making the history of Dalnavert, early Winnipeg, and the Victorian era accessible and relevant to our visitors, volunteers, staff, and the wider public
• Training and supervising volunteers onsite
• Providing exhibits, programs, heritage house and garden tours for members and public; assisting with community programs (lectures/presentations/panels/readings) that serve diverse community groups in Winnipeg
• Assisting with collections management support; registration and documentation of artifacts, making Dalnavert Museum’s collection more accessible to the public.
• Assisting with preventative conservation support; helping to implement our environmental and pest management control programs, as well as ensuring the preservation of our historic house by helping implement our collections care program.

Candidates interested in this position should demonstrate the following education, experience and skills:
- Upper-level University or College education in any of the following areas is preferred: Education, Collections Management, Museum Studies, Humanities (History, Canadian Studies, Political Science, Anthropology, Art History, and Fine Arts), OR Communication Arts and Information Technology.
- Experience in use of multimedia, and related equipment and software strongly desired. (e.g. Website development, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, Digital Audio Recording/Editing)
- Demonstrated interest in Canadian historical perspectives is an asset: e.g., social and political history, built heritage, material culture, interpretation and story-telling
- Computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, and databases is preferred
- Experience working with artefacts and digital photography is an asset
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential additional language skill an asset
- First Aid/CPR training is an asset
- Excellent oral, communication and organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, friendly, open to learning, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical demands of this position include sitting at a desk, using a computer, climbing stairs, and standing for an hour or more at a time
- Physical dexterity to handle collection artefacts by hand
- Occasional evening work may be required

Interviews will be conducted in early May, 2018. This position is dependent upon funding approval from the Young Canada Works program. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should be registered in the YCW in Heritage Organizations candidate job bank.
